Our Wedding

How does a guy from Fairhaven, Massachusetts, meet a girl from Caracas, Venezuela? Tinder. Obviously. Chris and Ada matched on Tinder sometime in February 2020. He was tired of the small talk that never went anywhere, so less than a week later, he asked her out for drinks at a local brewery. The date was set for Friday, March 6th. Ada showed up 20 minutes late.Chris… hasn’t entirely let it go. Despite the slightly delayed start, they ended up talking all night. They stayed so long that the brewery staff had to kick them out. That’s when they both knew there was something different here. Everything was going great. Then, on their third date, the world shut down for COVID. Naturally, they assumed that was it. A few solid dates and a funny story for later. But after a few weeks, they decided to keep seeing each other. Just the two of them, in their own little quarantine world. Every Friday night, Ada would head over to Chris’s place. They would talk for hours, drink a questionable amount of Trulys, try a new spot on Uber Eats, and play their YouTube soundtrack: mostly Machine Gun Kelly and The Lumineers. (A mood, honestly.) With no distractions, no movie theaters, no bowling, and no fancy restaurants, they learned how to simply enjoy being together. Just two people on a couch with a 12-pack, figuring out that they really, really liked talking to each other. Once the world reopened, things somehow got even better.Chris introduced Ada to snow (She was confused but impressed).Ada introduced Chris to arepas and empanadas (He was confused but obsessed). They’ve now spent over five years together. They’ve visited amazing places, bought a condo, tackled DIY projects (with minimal injuries), watched too many seasons of The Bachelor, and, most importantly, still love being each other’s favorite person to talk to about anything, everything, and absolutely nothing at all. So when Chris decided to propose, he knew exactly how to do it.At home, on a Friday night, just how everything started.&nbsp;He decorated their apartment with candles, flowers, and balloons, and told Ada he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.&nbsp;Especially the next 3,000 Fridays. Now they’re taking on their biggest adventure yet: marriage. They’re proud of the road they’ve traveled so far and are beyond excited to keep building their weird, wonderful, Venezuelan-American life together.

¿Cómo conoce un chamo de Fairhaven, Massachusetts, a una chama de Caracas, Venezuela? Tinder. Obviamente. Chris y Ada hicieron match en Tinder en algún momento de febrero de 2020. Él ya estaba cansado del típico small talk que no llevaba a nada, así que, menos de una semana después, la invitó a tomarse algo en una cervecería local. La cita quedó pautada para el viernes 6 de marzo. Ada llegó 20 minutos tarde.Chris… todavía no lo supera del todo. A pesar del pequeño retraso, terminaron hablando toda la noche. Se quedaron tanto tiempo que el personal de la cervecería tuvo que pedirles que se fueran. En ese momento, ambos supieron que había algo diferente ahí. Todo iba de maravilla. Pero, en su tercera cita… el mundo se cerró por el COVID. Naturalmente, pensaron que hasta ahí había llegado la cosa. Unas buenas salidas y una anécdota divertida para después. Pero, tras unas semanas, decidieron seguir viéndose. Solo ellos dos, en su pequeño mundo de cuarentena. Todos los viernes en la noche, Ada iba al apartamento de Chris. Hablaban por horas, se tomaban una cantidad preocupante de Trulys, pedían algo distinto por Uber Eats, y ponían su playlist de YouTube: principalmente Machine Gun Kelly y The Lumineers. (Una vibra, sinceramente.) Sin distracciones, sin cine, sin bowling, sin restaurantes fancy… aprendieron a disfrutar simplemente estar juntos. Solo dos personas en un sofá, con un 12-pack, dándose cuenta de que les encantaba hablar el uno con el otro. Y cuando el mundo volvió a abrir… todo se puso aún mejor.Chris le mostró a Ada la nieve (Ella estaba confundida, pero fascinada).Ada le mostró a Chris las arepas y las empanadas (Él estaba confundido, pero obsesionado). Ya llevan más de cinco años juntos. Han viajado a lugares increíbles, compraron un apartamento, se han lanzado proyectos "hágalo usted mismo" (con pocas lesiones, por suerte), vieron demasiadas temporadas de The Bachelor, y lo más importante: todavía siguen siendo la persona favorita del otro para hablar de todo, de nada, y de lo que sea. Así que, cuando Chris decidió proponerle matrimonio, ya sabía exactamente cómo hacerlo.En casa, un viernes en la noche. Tal como empezó todo.Decoró el apartamento con velas, flores y globos, y le dijo a Ada que quería pasar el resto de su vida con ella. Especialmente los próximos 3.000 viernes. Ahora están listos para su aventura más grande hasta ahora: el matrimonio. Están orgullosos del camino que han recorrido juntos, y más emocionados aún de seguir construyendo esta vida rara, maravillosa, y venezolana-americana que comparten.

We’ll be staying at The Beachcomber. Unfortunately, a room block won’t be available since February and March are their high season, but if you call them directly to book your room, they’ll offer a better rate than what’s listed online.

We also highly encourage guests to check out Airbnb options in the area. For anyone staying more than a couple of nights, they might offer a more affordable (and cozy!) alternative.
